“Whatever happened to, ‘Hey, I have some apples, would you like to buy them?’ ‘Yes. Thank you.’ That’s as complicated as it should be to open a business in this country.”-Ron Swanson (Parks and Rec)
There’s the way things are and the way we wish they would be. As a business owner, many circumstances are within your control. Far more things are in your control than if you were working for XYZ Corp. I think it is the reason so many of us leave our jobs and take on the risk of putting our expertise, ideas, services, and products on the market. We like the flexibility of using our time and resources the way we see fit. You may be able to escape the rigid environment of a 9-5, but the same rules of business apply.
Too many times business owners operate based on the way they wish business should be. You should enjoy the freedom and flexibility of being a business owner. Successful business owners also know that they must play by the rules. I’ve taken the liberty of amending Ron’s quote:
“Whatever happened to, ‘Hey, I have some apples, would you like to buy them?’ ‘Yes. Thank you.’ -Ron Swanson (Ron then checks with his state’s sales tax laws to see if sales tax should be collected.)
